COMPLEX CHINATOWN

The brief was to find creative ways to involve senior volunteerism for Lions Befrienders. One of the offered ways to solve this issue is an activity in relation to tourism. Specifically in Chinatown. This is an interesting project to take part of , the research and interviews done were in teams but the ideating and concept is completely individualistic. it is cool to see the different ways to use the research we have done together! The entire tour is based of a fictional story, where you are guided along with the memories and diaries of a senior as they retraced their steps into their childhood along Chinatown.

Getting our interviewees from our client Lions Befrienders, we interviewed our potential tour guides on how they felt about our Chinatown. Most of them told us stories of the old Chinatown like it was yesterday, subjects like gangs, beliefs and buildings that no longer exist today. Surveys were also done to our respective target audiences and most of them were as clueless as I was about how Chinatown used to be. From there I could sieve out a fictional persona of my target audience to better understand their needs and wants. Who specifically am I targeting to participate in this tour!

After collating all of the research, it is time to develop and ideate! How the concept came about is due to the lack of knowledge of the olden Chinatown from my target audience, what better way to tell them a story than to have a full-on experiential tour! Guided by no other than our beloved seniors, The tour concept would be taken place at night with 6 different "pit-stops" within the tour. Due to the safety of the seniors, they would not be physically guiding you through the tour, but an app with hints and envelopes hidden throughout the pit-stops.

After many sketches and changes to the big idea, the deliverables are finally here. To name a few would be the 3-Set Print Ads, App Interface, Letters, Photos, Glow-in-the-Dark Stickers and the key to end the entire tour, a Publication Magazine/ Journal! I thought about the whole experience of the tour and thought that the Print Ads would give us recognition. The app, letters and images to help guide the tour. The glow-in-the-dark stickers for users and guides to differentiate and see in the night. Finally, a publication to act as a reminder and reflection of what the tour is about.
